| Abstract: | A short-cut review was carried out to establish whether there was evidence to suggest that propofol should be avoided in patients with known egg allergy. Ninety-two papers were found in Medline using the reported searches, of which two presented the best evidence to answer the clinical question. The author, date and country of publication, patient group studied, study type, relevant outcomes, results and study weaknesses of these best papers are are shown in table 1. It is concluded that while the use of propofol in patients with simple egg allergy is likely to be safe, previous egg anaphylaxis is a contraindication. |
